Linganore Winecellars . . . A Blast!! 7/11/2009

You know you are a good DJ when people come up to you after an event and say the following, "I wish you were the DJ at my wedding, because our DJ sucked!" If you ever hear those words, you know you are doing your job. This was one of the nicest couples I have ever worked for. From start to finish Hope and Phil took care of me and made sure I had everything. The Linganore Winery was a very nice place. Way out in Mount Airy, MD is a nice place to take someone special. This place offers wine tasting, a wine tour and you can even have a picnic out there on the grass. An ideal spot to earn some brownie points with the misses.

Back to the party, the bride wanted a lively event, so I gave it to them for four hours. I played a variety of music, country, 80s, Motown, Hip Hop, Top 40, 70s. No matter the music the crowd appreciated it. The best part of the night, the groom asked me to get all of the firemen (Phil is a Montgomery County Firefighter) on the dance floor and embarass them. So I did. I called them up and told them that we had a plaque or some award to give them for their dedication and hard work for Montgomery County. What happened next is priceless . . . I played the YMCA and made them do it. How cheesy is that? But you know what, the groom loved it and everybody had a great time.

Hey, if you are looking for a DJ that knows how to entertain, look no further. Call today!! Stay blessed.

Graduation Party . . . Pylesville, MD 6/27/09

Okay, I gotta give a big shot out to Carmen and his family for being such gracious host at his home in Pylesville, MD which is about 45 minutes north of Baltimore. Grant it, it was about a 90 minute drive from Southern MD, but it was worth it. My job was simple, just play music ranging from Frank Sinatra to 50 Cent. Mission Accomplished!!

Carmen's house was laid out. The landscaping was immaculate and his house sat on about 6 acres of land. But what got me was the red Ferrari in his detached garage. I never saw one up close before, let alone touched one. It was cool. Overall, another satisfied customer. Stay blessed!

Fox Chase Manor . . . 6/26/09

Another satisfied customer courtesy of the Madd Scientist. First off, with the death of Michael Jackson, I just had to honor him that night. How did I do that? Simple, the first song I played for dinner was "Remember The Time," and the last song of the evening was "Beat It." It gets no better than that. During "Beat It," everybody took turns sliding across the floor. Even the bride in that pretty wedding dress of hers took off running and did the coolest slide across the dance floor on her knees.

Overall, the party was jumping. Things started off slowly, but what separates a good DJ from a bad DJ is the ability to adapt to the crowd, feel what they want to hear, and get them going. I guess that is what makes me successful. I don't panic when I play a few good party tunes and the dance floor is empty. Rather, I dig deep in the mental Rolodex and pull out something that will get them going. Once I got them on the dance floor, the party was on fire after that and they never left. Sometimes I get carried away, and I have to give the crowd a breather, hence I throw in a few slow songs from time to time. However, if it was up to me, we would burn the dance floor up. Stay blessed!

Leesburg set ablaze . . . Nferno strikes again!

First off, always trust your GPS. Okay, so I got lost going on Route 15 in Leesburg. I saw a sign that said detour Route 15 South, and I got confused, even though my GPS said stay straight. So I ignored the lady's voice and went 15 South. After about 20 minutes, I realized I was in Prince William County. Wait a minute? Leesburg is in Loudoun County. Then it hit me, the GPS said go 15 North, so why am I going south? Fortunately, I always allow myself enough time to leave so I got there with enough time to set up.

First off, it was hot, and playing ceremony music dressed in all black isn't fun. However, the good news was that I was nestled in the shade. The bad news was, I was underneath a swarming hornets nest. Yikes!

The party started off slow. I started off with "Celebration" and then mixed in "Hot Stuff." Only about three people danced. Then I threw on the "Electric Slide," and here is a shocker, only dudes did it. No ladies. That was a first! So, I was getting frustrated. After all, I was on a hot streak. Four banging parties in a row and I wasn't about to cool off tonight. So I threw on Michael Jackson's "Don't Stop Til You Get Enough" and it was all she wrote. The dance floor stay packed the whole night. However, there were obstacles. The room was hot and the guest spent the majority of their time trying to stay cool. So, I had to throw in a few slow songs to allow them to catch their breath.

Best mixes of the night- "Low," "Boom Boom Pow" and "Baby Got Back." Followed by, "Staying Alive," "Billie Jean," and "Sexyback." Are you kidding me?

Overall, a great night and I got a good tip. The bride even put out a tip jar for me, but either nobody saw it or they were too cheap to donate to the Nferno Foundation. Hey, what can I say. Stay blessed. I gotta a little break this weekend. I'm shooting a wedding down Lusby, MD. Stay blessed!

RIP Mr. Dave Coleman . . . Cherish Your Loved Ones

The death of one of my father's closest friends sent a severe shock wave through my soul. Mr. Dave Coleman pledged with my father(Omega Psi Phi) at Knoxville College in Tennessee and he died this week after a battle with cancer. As I shed a few tears for a man that I grew up knowing and really appreciating, it just let me know that we should cherish our loved ones every single day. As I watch my parents get older, I realize that they too someday will pass on to be with God. I realize that tomorrow isn't promise and we should live each day to the fullest, but I know that there are times when we take our precious life for granted. Its hard to fathom I know, to bury your parents--I mean you remember all of the good times in your childhood and you never expect your parents to grow old and gray. This is probably one of the hardest blogs to write, as I fight back tears, so I challenge each of you that read this, to please cherish your loved ones while they are living. Never take this precious time that God has given us for granted. Stay blessed!

Nferno sets the state capital on FIRE!

On May 30th, DJ Nferno invaded Annapolis and set the dance floor on fire at the Annapolis Cove Marina. This was a beautiful day for an outside reception on the water. There was a lot of energy from the very beginning. The Bridal Party was young, spunky, and wanted to dance their butts off . . . as was evident with their choice of intro music . . . Rock and Roll Part 2. From there, it went up hill. The ladies of Delta Gamma represented to the fullest especially when I cranked "Sweet Home Alabama" and replaced Alabama with Delta Gamma. I must say, this was one of the best events I did. Nobody left the dance floor.

Nigerian Nightmare . . . 5/24/09

This wasn't a DJ job, but a video job and I will never, ever do a Nigerian wedding function ever again! I'm trying to video the wedding, reception, etc, and people kept walking in front of camera. They were rude (not stereotyping all Nigerians as being rude, but the ones at the event), aggressive and I got no sense of direction from anybody. This was my first ever Nigerian event and it was very long. I mean really long. My day started at 1:30 pm and didn't end until 12:30 a.m. But what got me was that this event was at Martin's Crosswinds in Greenbelt, MD and they filled up two rooms. I mean the max was 300 and they were pretty close to that number. Folks had to be turned away and asked to leave because it was a fire hazard.

On a good note, one cool thing is when the bride and groom dance, everybody comes up to them and drops money on them. I mean that is the coolest thing. I saw at least four big shopping bags filled with money ($1, $20s, $50, etc). One thing I did see was a Martin's employee sneak in the crowd and steal a few dollars off the floor. I saw you buddy!! I got you on tape!
